22nd October 2013 – windsurfing *** Port La Nautique – foggy/cloudy
Fanatic Falcon 80 + 300cm fin - Xantos + 38 fin – Tushingham X-15 5.8
It was a windy night at Port La Nautique but we were sheltered:) So after
breakfast we headed around to the windsurfing car park and managed to get a
great spot in the sheltered old timers car park! The older lady windsurfer
even asked me what my wind gauge was reading – I must have really been
accepted:) It was too windy for the huge bumpy etang with the s.e. wind
gusting between 25 and 30 mph!!! I started to rig my 5.2 but had all sorts
of problems so changed to the 5.8 and started off on the 80 which was fine
in the gusts but hard going in the lulls:( Being a super large lake the
water was very bumpy and the wind very gusty. I gave up with the small
board and switched to the Xantos which was much better. I beat up to the
sailing school, sailing way past Bages but sadly the wind died as you
sailed out into the etang. After a few more runs I returned to the beach
to change to 7m but as the wind had gone light and gusty I packed up
instead and watched the action while waiting for Mag to return from another
mega bike ride!!! The wind had picked up again and perhaps I packed up a
bit early! There is a huge windsurfing community here, they have some mega
kit and can all get off work every time the wind blows! We decided as the
weather is still grim (cloudy again) to start heading home. We would have
had to leave tomorrow morning anyway - and have ended up at one of our
favourites, Lac Salagou.

Wednesday 23rd October – Dan’s 23rd Birthday:) - Travelling
We woke up to dull skies again at the lovely Salagou but it did get
brighter before we left so that we could see the lovely colours in the
hills, trees and lake:) We left at about 11 and stopped at La Cayler to
get some bread and a cake. Drove up the absolutely stunning free motorway
to Clermont Ferrand. It has to be the most beautiful scenery on any
motorway, lots of craggy hills and mountains, gorgeous autumn colours in
the trees and later the volcanos. Made the first part of the journey a
joy. I did sleep through quite a bit of it but woke up to go through
Millau and see the one vulture of our trip! Once you get to Clermont
Ferrand the motorway turns to pay so we turned off and the first part of
the journey was awful, a red road with lots of small towns, traffic lights
and roundabouts but once we passed Vichy there were some quite sizeable
chunks of motorway and we finally arrived at Briare le Canal on the Loire
about 50 miles short of Orleans at about 7, just before the sunset. We
stayed here in April and it is a lovely place, with two canals running
through it and sitting on the bank of the Loire. A nice man who has a boat
moored right where we park and a camper van parked there too, was very
friendly and even offered to let us into the showers tomorrow morning. We
declined, we’re nearly home now!! We hopped out and went for a very
quick walk returning in the dark.
